Care to Throw in a Striker?
By: Nick | June 6th, 2007
When parts of the old Wembley Stadium were sold off at auction, officials from Barcelona left with the players tunnel, a set of goal posts and one of the steps to the Royal Box — all for their museum to commemorate their European Cup Final victory at Wembley in 1992.
While it’s unlikely such esteemed European figures will descend upon Shrewsbury Town’s Gay Meadow later this month, when parts of its 98 years of history will be sold to all comers — there will surely be plenty of valuable things for fans to snap up to remember the place.
Or as one cheeky commenter to the local paper put it - “Lets just hope the Town can sell off a goalkeeper at the same time”.
