Premiership Reserves in the Football League Gets a Thumbs Up
By: Nick | March 21st, 2007
The new owner of Leicester City and possible statue model Milan Mandaric has reacted quickly to the belief of Liverpool’s Rafa Benitez, that the Football League may be a good place for Premiership reserve of ‘B’ teams to reside.
While Mandaric’s openness to the concept may hint at a general feeling within the Football League ownership - it’s worth noting however that he is the newest owner in the League, and has a background rooted firmly in the Premiership. His stewardship at Portsmouth may not make him the ideal representative of the fairly stolid Football League mentality.
I wonder how much an long term investor in the League appreciates a new face speaking up so quickly and receptively to an idea fairly radical at the end of the day. Britain as a whole guards its traditions very closely - with British football certainly no exception.
