Premiership Reserves in the Football League Gets a Thumbs Up

By: Nick | March 21st, 2007

mandaric3_199069.jpg The new owner of Leicester City and possible statue model Milan Mandaric has reacted quickly to the belief of Liverpool’s Rafa Benitez, that the Football League may be a good place for Premiership reserve of ‘B’ teams to reside.

While Mandaric’s openness to the concept may hint at a general feeling within the Football League ownership - it’s worth noting however that he is the newest owner in the League, and has a background rooted firmly in the Premiership. His stewardship at Portsmouth may not make him the ideal representative of the fairly stolid Football League mentality.

I wonder how much an long term investor in the League appreciates a new face speaking up so quickly and receptively to an idea fairly radical at the end of the day. Britain as a whole guards its traditions very closely - with British football certainly no exception.
