Scarborough Football Club Loses its Fight For Life

By: Nick | June 20th, 2007

scarborough-fc2.jpgAfter 128 years, Scarborough Football Club no longer exists. They have sadly joined the likes of Airdrieonians and Newport County on the scrapheap of football history.

It’s a sad thing to hear about a town losing its team — even though the past few years have not been kind.

It’s especially depressing, coming a few days after news that a Premiership player has the ridiculous celebrity and wealth to hire Lionel Richie as his wedding singer.

That’s a great shame. I hope that Scarborough Athletic, the proposed new team, can get on its feet. I also hope they keep the gull on their symbol - it’s awesome.

I just hate this type of thing — especially when you consider the money that is wasted every day by teams on useless players. If only a little could trickle down…

Gutted. The FA is to blame, they don’t look after the foundations of the game. Its all about the Premiership and Foreign money. One of the oldest clubs in the game, dead because no one in London cares.

Furthermore, why not have a hardship fund to prevent this type of thing??? The people of Scarborough have had their club taken away from them thanks to the FA and the points deficit that sent Scarborough down. If I remember right didn’t a similar injustice send Scarboro down a few years back,Carlisle being allowed to sign Jimmy Glass after the transfer deadline. He then went on to score an injury time winner on the last day of the season and fate was sealed. At least the FA can’t do anymore to Scarboro, can they???
