All is Very Well in The Championship These Days — But Can it Last?
By: Nick | March 11th, 2007
You have to feel a little sorry for The Championship. Why? For it’s a League whose every member would like to leave. Not merely the Premiership’s little sibling - more like its pet.
But there’s little doubt that England’s second tier of football is enjoying its closest and most exciting finish to a season since the Premiership split in 1992 - and consequently its most high profile.
A quick glance at the League table shows the top seven clubs separated by a slim eight points - and with nine matches left, only the bravest gambler would try to predict the outcome.
Yet despite the exciting events to come - are there dark clouds hovering over the League’s future? I came across an opinion today that throws some doubt onto the long term viability of healthy parity - sadly through no fault of the League itself. For as you might step out of the Premiership shadow for a brief time, you are dealing with a shadow that constantly grows and shrouds all who dare flourish outside.
