Are Stoke City a Model For the Future?

By: Nick | June 5th, 2007

stoke_city_fc_logo.jpgStoke City’s successful season may have left them just short of the Play-Offs, but the way in which they constructed their squad with several loan players could soon be seen as a winning formula for all budget conscious clubs.

It’s been dubbed the “hire and fire” loan policy, in which you basically pepper your squad with young loan players on short term deals (usually) from the Premiership — players you hope will be looking to impress their owners by putting in strong performances for their loan club.

It’s not as radical a system as was touted by Liverpool’s Rafa Benitez earlier in the year, but the concept is near enough in spirit.
