Southend’s English Striker Freddy Eastwood Might Play for His Country (But Not His Actual Country)

By: Nick | April 6th, 2007

flag-wales.jpg As a proud Welshman the desperate state of my national team pains me right now - and it’ll take more than a couple of aspirin to make it go away.

This situation has not been helped by the news that the Welsh FA are seriously looking into the heritage of Southend United star forward Freddy “Of course I am English” Eastwood.

He seems like a decent striker but give me a break! I might have been willing to accept Vinnie Jones in a Wales shirt - but this reminds me of the old joke that you could qualify to play for the Republic of Ireland in the early 1990’s if you owned an Irish Setter.
