Takeover Mania Sweeping the Football League?

By: Nick | March 7th, 2007

us1.jpg ‘Mania’ might be a little too strong - but after recent interest in Premiership clubs from overseas buyers - it seems the lower echelon of clubs are not immune to a little foreign courting.

Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday may not be the sexiest propositions today - but they have undoubted potential should they fall into the wealthy hands of U.S. or Chinese interests.

Quite what all of this foreign ownership will mean in the long term for clubs is yet to be revealed - but clubs that rely on their local flavor and local passion being steered by very non-local people will be interesting to follow.

Might be a better investment than the stock market. I wonder what all these American investors are going to do when they realize that a lot of these teams struggle not to lose money.
