What’s the True Cost of the High Cost of Watching Live Football?
By: Nick | March 8th, 2007 This rather alarming article was brought to my attention by my sweet wife - and what a murky picture it paints on the future of the game and those who lay in witness to it.
The English Football League has been a large figure in the all encompassing debate on high match ticket prices and their affect on the type of fan who has simply been precluded from turning up to see their team in the flesh.
Birmingham City are one club who have seen large sections of empty seats this season - despite lying near the top of The Championship sice day one. Today, League Two’s Wrexham have slashed prices for their next match - in a bid to secure the vocal support to help them avoid the drop out of League football.
I remember visiting Chester City’s compact Deva Stadium last season and being a little taken aback by the hefty cost to witness what could hardly be described as ‘champagne football’, squeezed into a pretty ordinary plastic seat (and I could hardly be described as tubby). Not to mention the price of a pie!
